single drop of oil to consume.
There are so many theories as to when will our oil resources will run out. During the 1950s there was a projection that US will experience peak oil after 10 years but it did not. The global peak oil is not an exception from those theories. There are different theories as to what month and year when we will experience Peak Oil, some even indicated that we are already experiencing the condition. But it’s already a common belief that the world oil reserve will only be good for at least two decades before it will experience a slowdown in production. Right now we are in safe grounds but measures have to be taken to avoid this doomsday scenario.
Although there are some people who just can’t believe the situation is eminent, we have to be alarmed with this study. We have to look for alternative to oil really fast. It’s a virtually a race against the clock and resources. There are already alternatives to oil such as natural gas but what we are looking for are renewable resources. Fossil fuel in concept is renewable but it will only return after thousands, even millions of years. If we could live through that, then we may have an energy resource for ages. But unfortunately, we have to look for energy resources that would cater our immediate need for oil. Not only something that we could exploit but a fully renewable source of energy. That way, we don’t have to look for other energy resources but concentrate on this type of energy.
The oil industry is certainly facing a very serious crisis. The depletion of oil could mean chaos in countries whose industry is the production of oil. At the same time, the world will also be facing a crisis since somehow some of our daily operations also depend on oil.
So what can we do? We can’t just sit here and do nothing. We have to conserve as much as possible our use of oil. The phrase “oil addiction” might not be applicable to most us, but in our little ways, we have to conserve not only in gasoline but also in general energy. Energy saving practices should be observed religiously and if there’s a chance, we have to tap on other power sources such as solar power. That way, we can enjoy electricity while helping save a little bit of oil.
Peak oil will be happening. That’s why we have to look for alternatives as soon as possible. The race is on pressuring our ingenuity while the oil reserves still available for use.
