We are always on the lookout for a natural alternative energy. The fossil fuels that provide us with all our energy needs are fast depleting. That’s why the prices of our gasoline, electric bill and gas are skyrocketing because of the scarcity of the fuel sources. Everyone knows about it and that’s why in various parts of the globe innovations are being presented, hoping to reduce the world’s dependency in fossil fuels before it’s too late. The call for a
reusable, accessible and dependable source of energy is always there. So far, different practices have been adopted and have been showing considerable success under the right conditions.

One of those practices is creating methane gas and converting to electrical energy. For now, the most popular sources of methane gas are the natural gas fields found in different parts of the globe. These natural gases are harnessed and eventually converted to electricity. However, there are theories that these gases also have the possibility of depletion since it’s also coming from decaying matter under the earth. Setting up of one facility takes millions and there is no way it can just be transferred to another place where gases can be extracted without spending another million. It’s an economic nightmare for different private companies.

But methane gas doesn’t only come from natural gas sources. We can actually mimic the gas sources and eventually implement them as electricity.

In rural areas, methane gas is now being used to power the electricity in some homes. The source: cow manure. The manures are collected before they dry up and the gasses that the manure emits can be converted into a methane gas. These gasses are called biogas. It already has been proven that cow manure is a viable source of methane gas. Other animals such as pigs have also been proven to provide other rural houses with their needed electricity. Aside from electricity, methane gas has also been converted into a liquefied petroleum gas or LPG that can be used for cooking. Heat that is emitted by garbage has also been used to extract methane gas.

The obvious disadvantage of this energy source is the smell. Collected manure and garbage could obviously not to be placed near homes. Besides, it takes a lot of manure to power up one home. It’s only viable on some rural homes where it can be placed in very far locations where there are ho houses.

Methane gas is an important source of energy and there are sources that you can get for free and really easy. There are companies that specialize in building facilities to extract methane gas. If you have a farm, you can certainly power up your home without even paying for a single cent. There are even homes that have been providing other homes with the electricity that were extracted from cow manure. If this technology could be harnessed to its full potential, not only do we preserve our environment, we don’t even have to pay for our electric bills every. All we need is a couple of cows to help us save money and save the world.
