Global Warming is a phenomenon concerning the increase of the average temperature of the Earth’s surface air and also that of the oceans. The most important studies about Global Warming have been done in recent decades and there is a prospecting about the continuation and increase of this situation. The temperature has been increasing and the studies affirm and alert for two different variables: the urban heat island
and the ocean temperatures. Urban heat island, the tendency for city environments to be warmer than surrounding areas, is partly responsible for the increase of the average temperature. Also, industrial activity and the emission of pollutants, especially the use of fossil fuels in automobiles, are responsible.

Another consequence of Global Warming is its effects suffered by the ocean. The big problem is the fact that ocean temperatures increase more gradually than on land because of the larger effective warming capacity of the oceans and also because the sea can drop heat by means of evaporation more easily than land is able to do.

There is global concern about global warming and because of this, the Kyoto Protocol was created. It confirms a real worldwide concern. The Kyoto Protocol is the first international agreement on combating global warming. The Kyoto Protocol was enacted as an amendment to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 1997. Today, the protocol covers more than 160 countries, which is 55% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

The United States, Australia, and Kazakhstan have not yet signed the protocol, despite the fact that the United States has historically been the world's biggest emitter of greenhouse gases. The main reason for the United States not ratifying the treaty is its belief that the Kyoto Protocol is an unjust and ineffective resource for addressing global climate controls. The United States government has addressed concerns about how ratifying would affect the economy. Making changes in industry to allow for more environmentally friendly production is seen as being to expensive, especially considering the size of the U.S.

Global Warming has a lot of negative impacts related to the evaporation of water. The melting of the polar ice caps, and consequently the evaporation of ocean water, is of major concern. Scientists have been studying different ways to measure this situation by using computer technology to monitor changes in climate. These models allow scientists to calculate the true effects that global warming has on polar icecap melting and helps them to identify the big problems. Discussion about new findings and research is exchanged Kyoto Protocol meetings.

Every country tries to apply new laws to control the growing problem of global warming, especially in terms of industrial activity. There is a common belief that there is a way to keep producing and increasing industry while at the same time respecting nature and guaranteeing the best situation for Earth today and in the future. Al Gore, former vice president of the United States and environmental activist, was recently awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in fighting global warming.
