Geothermal energy is a naturally safe energy that utilizes the earth’s heat to generate power. This type of energy provides less than 1% of the world’s usage of power. However, it doesn’t mean geothermal energy doesn’t have any potential for development. Research is still going on and support for this type of plant is growing in various parts of the world. The progress, however, is very slow. Geothermal power is already in the
country for decades but there are not visible changes yet on advancing the technology of geothermal energy. The good news companies are able to stabilize themselves and create a market around their area. Other countries as of now are still thinking about using the energy but it will not last long before they are implemented.

There are several factors that slow the propagation of the geothermal energy in various countries that are yet to be addressed: One of those concerns is that the lands where most of the geothermal plants should be constructed are very fragile. Since steam will practically spring out of the earth, it should be left as it is to ensure that it will work. Touching them may interrupt the ability of the location to let off steam. There’s also a chance that the geothermal location may die down. No one’s sure what the lifespan of a certain location is but it will be depleted after some decades. Money will be lost if the plant will eventually close one day because the land will not let off steam. But experts say that after a few years, it will eventually go back ready for another number if decades.

But the advantages of geothermal energy are also overwhelming. For one, this type of energy is safe and reusable. After the water has been drawn out from the source, energy companies are still able to inject the water back for another round of steam. Instead of using fossil fuel that’s slowly depleting, geothermal energy is a renewable source of energy. Geothermal doesn’t also stop emitting power. It goes on 24 hours ensuring the stability of consumers who use this type of energy. All these reusability reduces the cost of the production of the energy. Instead of going through the middle of the ocean and spend billions on a potential fuel source, investors will love the idea of seeing the actual power coming out of the land rater than predicting them in the waters. The plants in any area are also scalable. If a big city is near the plant, all the developers have to create is a bigger plant to cater the need of the city. Since the heat will always be there, it’s up to the plant to process and convert them into energy.

Geothermal energy may be in a slow pace of development, but its impact in various parts of the globe where it exists is very significant. US is the number one producer of geothermal energy in the world followed by the Philippines while Italy comes in third.
