Tsunami killing thousands in Thailand, constantly melting ice in the North Pole and hurricanes that seemed to be stronger than the last are just some of the conditions that we are expecting today. All over the world, extreme temperatures are felt in areas that used to have simple weather. Instead of simple winter, below zero temperature, renders populous communities helpless. In some parts of Asia, heat waves are also not only
affecting livestock and crops but also lives. We are now at a time that extreme climate change could be felt very, very fast and we seemed to be at a loss on what to do about it.

We were used to answer to concerns of climate change as it tells us that winter, summer, fall or spring is coming. Preparing used to be really easy as the cold could be addressed with our coats that we always keep for winter. But now we have to admit that when the season is changing, we are not just expecting a tolerable situation, we also need to prepare for the worst. The winter is going to be really cold and the summer might bring fatal heat wave if we’re not ready for these events. Climate change has really come to its highest level. There are lots of contrasting theories why climate change is happening but we all have to adjust to these conditions or else we could be one of the casualties of nature. Climate change is here and we have to live with it no matter what.

There are so many reasons why we are experiencing this climate change. Our global condition is dubbed by most scientists as “global warming.” Simply put, this condition is experienced all over the world. As we have said, the ice caps in North Pole are quickly melting. This is causing an alarm all over the world since the water level in various cities is going up. If the rate of melting will continue, California might not be visible or would be the new underwater attraction. The reason for melting is the thinning of our ozone layer. This layer protects the earth from extreme heat. For many years, it has been monitored to have been thinning more and more. The South Pole has the thinnest ozone layer and it even has a hole that constantly getting bigger and bigger. There’s a fear that if the ozone layer hole will become bigger and might reach an inhabited land, the effects could be catastrophic, skins that are exposed directly to the sun without the protection of the ozone layer would be fatal as it will cause skin cancer or excessive burning. The reason why our ozone layer is getting thinner is because of the excessive carbon dioxide emitted from the earth. Chlorofluorocarbon or CFC is also a major factor that triggers the ozone layer to get thinner. The more carbon dioxide and chlorofluorocarbon emitted, the faster our ozone layer will get thinner. In turn, our earth will not be protected from intense heat of the sun. Thus, global warming is experienced in any part of the globe.

As carbon dioxide and chlorofluorocarbon are the pointed culprits in “melting” our ozone layer, it’s quite obvious that the conditions that we are experiencing today are also the fruits of human development. In any day, we burn gas and these emissions don’t go anywhere but up. Large scale factories that also use gas to run its operations emit a very scary amount of carbon dioxide and that’s just for one factory. There are thousands of factories around the world who everyday give out the same amount of carbon dioxide, even more. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) maybe discreet but they give out the same effect. Our air conditioners, fridge or anything similar to this gives out that harmful by product is also dangerous to nature. Simple things like burning of plastic, breaking of Styrofoam or just plain smoking also contributes to global warming.

But there are others that give out their counter claim about global warming. Some scientist doesn’t believe in the notion that we are the primary culprit of this condition. Our emission worldwide according to them is very minimal it should not affect any weather change.  What we are experiencing right now is just part of the earth’s process in adapting itself to the world’s condition. This heat and extreme coldness are just part of a cycle that should be placing our world in a temporary inconvenience but it should be back in no time.

While the scientists and the smartest in these fields are arguing with the reason. We have to be prepared with these things. We may still be far from the doomsday scenario but we it helps if we try to prevent these conditions from happening. As much as possible we should emit lesser carbon dioxide in our daily lives. Hybrid cars, which doesn’t require much fuel but efficiently uses it with electricity is virtually smoke free. If we could control our usage of electricity, we can also help in this endeavor. Our electricity is usually run by coal fired power plants and emits a lot of carbon dioxide. If we control our use of electricity, we might be able to prevent excessive usage of the plant, thus preventing more emission of carbon dioxide. Even smokers contribute to the hastening of global warming’s effect on earth. If we could stop smoking, it would be for the bet.

The government also has to do their part by encouraging power alternatives that will be used directly to home. Windmills, sun and great waves of waters are some of the famous power alternatives being implemented in various countries. They could encourage people who wanted to help the earth by creating earth friendly neighborhood. Aside from health factors, these power alternatives are in a way, cheaper in the long run. It’s just a wishful thinking, but it would be great if people who use this will have tax cuts? It’s one way of encouraging others to help in freeing the ozone layer from bad elements such as carbon dioxide and CFC.

Las Vegas Nevada would be a prime location to generate solar power as it is seldom cloudy here.  If a large tax-cut were offered to each home owner for placing solar panels on their homes we would cut emissions locally on a grand scale and become the Green Capital of the United States.  Energy not used by the homeowner or business could be sold to other locations interested in Green Energy and that money used to offset the tax-cut.
